I have only ever heard this type of meal called a potluck, so I love learning all the other names that people call it!

Thanks for commenting everyone! Our winner is TheresaJenkins whose go-to potluck dish is a fresh garden salad.

Baked rigatoni with cheese.

I do call it a pot luck and my favorite dish to bring to a pot luck is Chicken, broccoli, cheesy rice casserole!!

My favorite potluck recipe is for Irish Stew.

I bring potatoes

In the summer I love to make up fruit salad or macaroni salad.

I usually take meatballs - they go over very well

quinona casserole deceptively filling

My favorite potluck dish is lasagna. It's amazing how many people it can feed!

For us it was either chicken wings or sweet and sour meatballs. My son had the most sports potluck things we had to go to and meat was a first pick because..yeah , teen boys lol

Pepperoni Pizza Lasagna

I love potlucks. My community has them on a regular basis. My favorite thing to bring is Angel food cake. I bring lots of different things, but the cake is a staple that always goes over well.

my favorit is buffalo chicken dip and tortillas

i like to take a nice broccoli salad to potlucks. it is decadent and slightly healthy!

When my oldest was in 7th grade, he asked me if I could bring deviled eggs to his potluck. Ever since, I am known as the deviled egg mom and get asked to bring them to all school potlucks. My oldest is now in high school and it has followed to that school too!

it depends on the time of year and the occasion. In the summer for a barbecue, I'll make either a wilted cucumber salad or a black bean-jicama salad. In cooler months, I'll make cider-spiced oven sweet potato fries, or a squash and tomato tian. (Thank you South Beach Diet!)

I like to bring darkest chocolate cake ever, it is a Bundt cake and goes a long way.

My favourite pot luck dish is made with Poblano peppers, cheese and eggs.

I've always called them potlucks! I typically try to bring a "secretly healthy" dessert. Once I brought a deep dish cookie pie that was still warm from the oven and actually contained garbanzo beans. It was a huge hit and no one knew it was healthy-ish!

anything gluten free, eg. deviled eggs, veggie trays and salads, chicken dishes etc. We call it covered dish dinner or potluck.

Broccoli and rice casserole

I'll usually bring a fruit salad or potato salad.

My family expects a salad and then looks for what did she bake us? My go to isGF banana bread!

My grape salad its delish.God bless

My cheeseburger pie always goes over well

Always asked to bring "MY" stuffed eggs as they call me the jello lady, a jello dish.

7 Layer Dip Everyone expects it

I like to take an Apple Cake or fudge vegan brownies

I like to bring a Chinese coleslaw salad!

I always bring 2 chocolate eclair cakes to potlucks.

Hummus with raw veggies. Don't tell anyone, but I usually buy the hummus then I only have to cut up carrots, celery, radishes, and so on.

Homemade mac and cheese is always a big hit.

my go to pot luck dish is a fresh garden salad

my favorite is a chicken and pasta dish that is almost like chicken and noodles . Oh so good. God bless

ambrosia salad

I like to make a pasta salad for potluck dinners.

It's usually something I'm sure people will eat so there isn't a ton of it left over to bring home...like cookies. And I don't mind having them around if there are a bunch.

Green Been Casserole is always a hit!

I usually bring a German Potato Salad to a potluck and always go home with a cleaned dish.

People usually love my homemade potato salad.

My favorite dish to make for a potluck is broccoli salad.

I love a good pot roast!!

My favorite potluck dish would be lasagna.

I always bring something food allergy friendly, no nuts, dairy, gluten, or shrimp. My family always struggles at these because we have so many food allergies I try to bring something safe for all.

I like to bring my homemade Mac 'n cheese that has 5 different types of cheese in it.

Not fond of potlucks I bring fancy brownies if I must participate in one.

Chicken and Cabbage Fresh Salad low in calories

I like to bring baked ziti, a vegetarian recipe, to potlucks in the winter and a romaine and mandarin orange salad in summer.

We call them Potlucks in Alabama. I like to bring a cheesy chicken and rice casserole or a ground beef and tater tot casserole.

at my church, one of the favorites is deviled eggs which no one seems to want to bring so I usually do deviled eggs and there are a ton of different recipes to try for this dish.

I tried a variety of dishes to bring to our work potluck events and the all time favorite by coworker vote is hot wings.

We have pot-luck at least once a week -its whatever you can find in the refrigerator to warm- up ( leftovers) or a sandwich, etc.! It means I don't have to cook-yay!

I guess it would depend on whether I am asked to bring a main/side dish or a dessert. For a main dish I would probably do a pasta salad and for dessert it would be an clair cake.

a nice potato salad.

I like to bring a Ramen Noodle Asian Salad. It's tasty, crunchy and fairly healthy.

I like to ask the host to let me know what will help "round things out." I love to bring something light, like tabbouleh with pita, or sliced fruit. Or fun drinks like sangria or root beer floats are also a favorite!

I am all about different kinds of dips people bring to potlucks! My favorite (and the one I will usually bring) is just cream cheese beanless chilli and some shredded 4-cheese on top. Pop it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and YUM

Potlucks are normally filled with dense, cheesy, creamy dishes - because uh YUM. But, I like to lighten things up a little bit with a black bean and corn salad. Or another classic is a slow cooker buffalo chicken dip (that actually isn't too bad for you!). Potlucks are so fun, I love seeing everyone's personality come through their dishes!

I haven't been to a potluck in years, but I anytime I go to one, I usually make my way to the dessert end of the table where there are almost always brownies of some sort. I find there are often a lot of potato and other deli salads present and things made with cream for some reason... and I am lactose intolerant, so it's rough out there for me.

When I was growing up, we never called our potlucks "potlucks." Everyone was just told to "bring a dish to pass." My favorite potluck dish is a recipe my mom just calls Good Beans - it's made with green beans, baked beans, butter beans, bacon, and onions. It's amazing!

I usually like to bring some sort of appetizer to a potluck. I make cheesy crackers wrapped in bacon which are always a hit. You can't go wrong with bacon!

I love to bring homemade spinach dip and pita chips/pretzel chips to pair with it. It's easy and it's my no-fail option!

oreos

I used to go to a lot of potlucks. Like every week. I even went to a potluck wedding once. It was awesome. My favorite dish to bring is a pasta casserole of some sort. Though there was some guy who would always just bring a canister of Pringles. Go figure.

YES! There's always someone who doesn't understand the rules of a potluck. You shouldn't bring a bag of chips unless it's a football party or the host asks you to bring chips.

I AM A DIABETIC AND OVERWEIGHT, IT IS SO HARD TO FIND LOW CARB, LOW SUGAR RECIPES THAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY EAT! THERE SEEMS TO BE A BUCH OF THEM HERE THAT I MIGHT EVEN ENJOY, AND WHO KNOWS, IF I DON'T TELL ANYONE THAT THEY ARE "DIET RECIPES" I CAN GET THE REST OF MY FAMILY TO TRY THEM TOO!
