What it is: The best-selling diet book from frequent Oprah guest Dr. Mehmet Oz focuses on waist measurement and promises to help dieters drop two inches from their waistline in two weeks. The science-based diet recommends eating plans, exercise regimens and tips for losing weight, while explaining weight control, fat storage and other important diet concepts to readers.

How it works: The initial two-week program focuses dieters on eating healthy and exercising, and is designed to break the cycle of craving sugar and white flour. Co-author Michael Roizen says the plan is designed to help dieters fight cravings and start burning fat more efficiently. The program helps dieters do this through regular exercise, measuring the waistline, cleaning out the fridge and eating healthy meals.

What you do: Dieters start with a two-week program that focuses on eating whole foods and walking regularly. During this program, dieters eat three meals a day and snack every few hours, making sure the last snack is at least 3 hours before bedtime. You are allowed desserts or sweets every other day.

Benefits: Experts praise the diet for it’s easy to understand scientific explanations and lighthearted humor. It is also hailed as a great diet for those with significant belly fat, since it has been proven for effective weight loss for those people.

The Down Side: Experts caution that like most diets, this may not work effectively for everyone.
