The Skinny Bitch Vegan Diet

What it is: This snarky diet from the popular “Skinny Bitch” series, this hardcore vegan diet is for the serious dieter only. The authors Kim Barnouin and Rory Freedman, a former model and former modeling agent, claim that a whole food vegan diet will help you lose weight and live a happier and healthier lifestyle.

How it works: Barnouin claims that this diet will not only help you lose weight, but will help you detoxify your body and lead a healthier lifestyle. She also recommends waiting until you are feeling starved before eating, to adjust to the feeling of hunger.

What you do: There is no calorie counting on the skinny vegan diet. Dieters can eat unlimited organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Desserts sweetened with cane juice, maple syrup or raw sugar is permitted, but no processed foods or artificial sweeteners are allowed. Because this is a vegan diet, meat, fish and dairy are all forbidden. The plan also recommends regular exercise, emphasizing yoga in particular.

Benefits: The diet will help you lose weight and reducing your intake of processed foods may have significant health benefits. Experts recommend talking to a dietician before starting any vegan diet.

The Down Side: At times the “skinny” mantra sounds more like an animal rights campaign than a diet, with references to meat as “dead, rotting, decomposing flesh.” Additionally, there is an emphasis on bodily detox and cleansing, which is viewed as unsafe by many medical professionals.
