Blood Type Diet

What it is: Created by Dr. Peter D’Adamo in Eat Right for Your Type, this diet has participants eating and limiting specific foods based on the individual’s particular blood type. D’Adamo argues that blood type is influential in processes important to weight loss such as metabolism and digestion.

How it works: After determining your blood type, you follow a specific diet and exercise regimen for your unique needs. The website offers a recipe finder to help locate meals for yourself and even compatible meals for a significant other of a different blood type.

What you do: Type A participants are instructed to limit dairy, meat and animal fat, and eat more complex carbs. Type B participants are instructed to limit chicken and eat a variety of fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy. Type AB participants are instructed to eat a vegetarian diet, at least mostly, and limit fish, meat, chicken and dairy. This is just the start of the recommendations.

Benefits
: D’Adamo argues that following a diet for your blood type will also better your immune system and help defend you from maladies such as cancer.

The downside: As you might have gathered from the instructions, this diet can be very restrictive especially for those of type AB who have no desire to go vegetarian.
