Meat & Cheese Baked Ziti

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces whole wheat ziti pasta
  • 1 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cans (27-ounce) spaghetti sauce
  • 6 ounces reduced fat provolone cheese, sliced
  • 6 ounces reduced fat mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded
  • 1 1/2 cup light sour cream
  • 1/2 cup fat free Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Cook whole wheat ziti pasta as directed on the manufacturer's packaging. Drain and set aside.
     
  3. Saute the extra lean ground beef and chopped onion in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
     
  4. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for about 15 minutes.
     
  5. Place about half of the pasta in a lightly oiled 2-quart baking dish. Top with a layer of provolone and mozzarella cheeses.
     
  6. Spread on a layer of about half the light sour cream and then half the spaghetti sauce mixture. Cover with the remaining pasta, cheese slices, sour cream, and sauce.
     
  7. Finally, sprinkle on a layer of fat free Parmesan cheese.
     
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese and sauce is bubbly. Serve warm.
