Lean Six Layer Dinner

Lean Six Layer Casserole may have six layers but they're all lean and made with fresh ingredients. This is one of our many easy to make low fat dinner recipes. It's an old fashioned recipe with a fresh taste.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw lean hamburger
  • 2 cups raw potatoes, sliced
  • 2 cups celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onions, diced
  • 2 teaspoons salt or less
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup green pepper, diced
  • 2 cups canned tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a casserole dish. Sprinkle each layer with salt and pepper before adding the next layer.
     
  2. Place potatoes in the bottom of the casserole Add the layer of celery. Add the layer of hamburger Add the layer of onions. Add the green pepper. Pour the tomatoes over the mixture.
     
  3. Bake for 2 hours at 350 degrees F.

I have made this before, in the betty crocker cookbook, VERY GOOD. do not drain the tomatoes., BETTER THE NEXT DAY. bjh

I haven't made it yet, but it sounds good. However I wish your would put the amount of sodiumm, etc. on your recipes. Thanks.

I would say the tomatoes are NOT drained. If that's not right, you can always drain any excess liquid.

How many servings in this recipe? Are the caned tomatoes drained, or undrained? This recipe is undoable as it stands. Too much liquid=ruined Too little liquid=ruined
