For a breakfast casserole you can throw together in a pinch, add Super Simple Sausage Strata to your repertoire of breakfast recipes. Store-bought croutons make this one of those semi homemade recipes with built-in seasonings.

Preparation Time15 min

Cooking Time1 hr 10 min

Cooking MethodCasserole

  • 1 pound hot turkey sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup reduced-fat cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 box seasoned croutons
  • 3 cups skim milk
  • 6 eggs or equivalent egg substitute
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • salt to taste

  1. Sautee turkey sausage in a skillet and drain well. Lightly coat a 9x13-inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray and place drained sausage in the dish.
  2. Layer croutons over sausage and cover sausage and croutons with grated cheese.
  3. Mix eggs and milk in a medium-sized bowl. Pour egg and milk mixture over sausage, croutons, and cheese. Sprinkle dry mustard on top. Salt and pepper to taste.
