Quick Fruity Oatmeal

Quick Fruity Oatmeal is the perfect healthy breakfast for any day. It is quick and easy, but this isn't your average cold cereal. The fruit and raisins make this oatmeal extra special and extra sweet!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups skim milk
  • 2 cups regular (not instant) rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup raisins or chopped pitted prunes
  • Ground cinnamon, to taste
  • 2 apples or firm pears, shredded
  • Skim milk, warmed, for serving
  • Brown sugar, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine water, milk, oats and salt and place over a medium-high heat.
     
  2. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to simmer, and cook 5 minutes.
     
  3. Stir in the prunes or raisins, apples or pears, and cinnamon and continue to simmer, stirring frequently, about 5 minutes more or until tender.
     
  4. Spoon into bowls. Pass milk  and sugar at the table.

Shouldn't the recipe call for 2 cups of rolled oats instead of just 2 teaspoons?
