Chicken Barbecue Sandwich

Make a delicious and tender barbecue sandwich that you don't have to feel guilty about eating with this slow cooker chicken recipe. With so much flavor, this is one of the tastiest barbecue low calorie slow cooker recipes in existence.

  • 4 boneless skinless, chicken breasts
  • 20 ounces jar of low sugar BBQ sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Liquid Smoke (optional)
  • 4 whole wheat rolls


  1. Place chicken breasts into slow cooker. Pour barbecue sauce over chicken.
  2. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke to slow cooker.
  3. Cook four hours on medium and then turn it down to low for two hours.
  4. Place on rolls and pour a little sauce on.

I dont have medium on my slow cooker, just high, low, and warm. So what can I cook this at, I would like to try this one and it sounds like a keeper. Thank you

@wadeckiburn: Depends how old your slow cooker is. I'm involved in a long thread about this on another cooking blog, and the consensus so far is that if your cooker is a newer model (made in the past 5 years or so), you should ALWAYS start on the LOW setting for ONE-HALF of the cook time recommended. Then check for desired cook-temp/texture. If required, add more time in increments of no more than 30 minutes. If your cooker is older, though -- especially if it's over 10 years old, and there are people on that other blog thread who've been running the same cooker for as long as 40 years! -- you're prolly OK with the recipe as written. Before I figured this out by trial and error I just about despaired of my high-end Cuisinart slow cooker, because when I followed the timing in conventional slow-cooker recipes my proteins invariably turned to mush. I really hope this helps you; it sure helped me!
