Tuscan Meat Sauce

By: Jovial Foods

Transform your pasta dishes with this Tuscan Meat Sauce recipe from Jovial Foods. If you've never tried your hand at homemade sauce making, then you're in for a real treat as almost nothing beats homemade spaghetti sauce.

Notes

This recipe comes courtesy of Jovial Foods

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, or 1/2 medium onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef (you can substitute with ground turkey or pork if you prefer, with equally good results)
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup strained or crushed tomatoes, preferably packed in glass (you can add more if you like more sauce, but the real Tuscan recipe calls for just one tablespoon and twice the meat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 12 ounces Jovial pasta
  • Cheese, grated (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chop vegetables finely and sauté on very low heat for 10 minutes in olive oil.

  2. Add ground meat and continue to cook on medium low heat for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add wine and let evaporate uncovered.

  3. Add tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste and lower heat to simmer. Most say the sauce should simmer for 2 to 3 hours, but if you don’t have that much time, 30 to 45 minutes will be fine.

  4. Cook 12 ounces of Jovial pasta following cooking instructions on the package. Brown rice caserecce or Einkorn rigatoni or penne would be the best choices.

  5. Drain pasta and add to a serving dish, stirring well with sauce. Let sit for a few minutes before serving so the pasta absorbs the flavor of the sauce. Add grated cheese if you wish, but I like it best without.
