Luscious Fudge Brownies

These luscious fudge brownies are some of the best homemade brownies we've ever had, and they're low fat! Follow this easy brownie recipe and prepare to be amazed.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar or sugar substitute
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup Dutch process cocoa
  • 4 egg whites, or 1/2 cup egg substitute
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Lightly coat a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray.
     
  3. Whisk whole wheat flour and baking soda in a bowl.
     
  4. Heat sugar (or sugar substitute), applesauce and plain yogurt, stirring constantly, in a saucepan over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat.
     
  5. Add cocoa and stir until smooth. Cool 10 minutes.
     
  6. Add egg whites or egg substitute to sugar mixture and stir well.
     
  7. Add vanilla.
     
  8. Stir in flour mixture.
     
  9. Pour batter into pan. Bake about 18 to 20 minutes. Cool in pan.
