Cooking Time12 min

Ingredients

  • 2 cup whole wheat pastry flour, or white whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon solid butter substitute suitable for baking
  • 1/4 cup skim milk

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly combine wheat flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. Cut in the butter substitute into the dry mixture until mixture resembles coarse meal. This is easiest to do when the solid butter substitute is cold.

  3. Add milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

  4. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 10 to 12 times. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a 2-3/4 inch biscuit cutter.

  5. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees F for 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
