The Perfect Soft Boiled Egg

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Start your morning off right with The Perfect Soft Boiled Egg. This healthy breakfast recipe is quick, easy and delicious. A simple poached egg served on top of a piece of buttered toast tastes flavorful and filling, plus it's loaded with protein. The best part about this meal is that it can be prepared in just four to six minutes, depending on how runny you like your eggs. This means that your eggs will be ready in the same amount of time it takes to make toast.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice bread, toasted and buttered
  • Sea salt and freshly gound black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat an inch of water in a small saucepan over medium, high heat until boiling.

  2. Carefully add egg, reduce the heat to medium, and cover with a lid. Let egg cook for 4 minutes (for very soft, still a little runny whites and runny yolk), 5 minutes (for set whites and runny yolk), or 6 minutes (for set whites and set yolk with a slightly runny center). If you use extra large eggs, add 30 seconds to each cooking time.

  3. With a slotted spoon remove egg from boiling water and place in a small bowl of cold water until slightly cooled (about 1 minute).

  4. Using a knife, gently crack the side of the egg and gently peel the shell, making sure not puncture the egg.

  5. Once the egg is peeled, place it on a piece of buttered toast, slice down the center with a knife, and season with sea salt and pepper.
