Honey Hamburger Soup

Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 28-ounce can tomatoes
  • 1 quart water
  • 4 low sodium beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 small head of cabbage, chopped
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 3 potatoes, cubed with the skins still on
  • 8 ounces okra
  • 8 ounces corn, canned or frozen
  • 8 ounces peas, canned or frozen
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2/3 cup dry red wine
  • 1/2 can light beer
  • 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed (optional)
  • 1 pinch rosemary (optional)
Instructions
  1. Brown beef in skillet. Drain.
     
  2. Add beef, canned tomatoes, water, bouillon, celery, onion, carrots, potatoes, okra, corn, peas, honey, wine, beer, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and spices to a large slow cooker.
     
  3. Cook mixture on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 8 to 10 hours.
     
  4. Add cabbage during the final hour of cooking time.
     
  5. Serve with crackers and a salad, if desired.
