The Prostate Health Diet helps men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostrate through a low fat, no caffeine diet.

What it is: The prostrate is a male gland of the reproductive system which continues to grow during a man’s life. After around age 50, prostate enlargement (Benign Prostatic Hyerplasia or BPH) can cause problems in many men, such as impeding urination, though it is in no way related to prostate cancer. The Prostrate Health Diet helps create a healthier prostrate.

How it works: Studies have shown that men who consume less calories overall, less fat and especially less protein, have a lower risk of BPH. Plant-based estrogens, found in soy, green tea, legumes, apples and onion may also help prevent BPF.

What you do: Practitioners consume more foods rich in omega-3 oils (cold-water fish) and zinc (raw pumpkin seeds). They consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, soy and green tea. They eat less fat and cholesterol (very little red meat) and completely avoid tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, coffee and beer. Saw palmetto supplements may also benefit the prostrate.

Benefits: The diet helps treat BPF without costly medication. The low-fat, low-cholesterol diet may also help prevent heart disease.

Downside: The diet leans more towards a vegetarian regime and does not allow you common vices such as caffeine or alcohol.
