Spicy Burgers

Want a burger with a bit more kick? These spicy burgers will hit the spot. Learn how to make juicy hamburger patties with a ton of flavor. You'll start becoming known around town as the hamburger king!

Serves: 4

Cooking Time: 10 min

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon light olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2 pounds 99% lean ground beef
  • 4 toasted hamburger buns
  • 4 slices red onion (thin slices)
  • 4 slices tomato
  • reduced sugar ketchup, for garnish
  • mustard, for garnish
  • low fat mayonnaise, for garnish
Instructions
  1. Combine oil and onion in a small skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring, about four minutes, or until onions soften.  Add garlic, pepper, nutmeg and coriander and continue to cook another minute.
     
  2. Scrape the onion mixture into a mixing bowl, add the lean beef.  Mix well.
     
  3. Form four patties, place on a plate, cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
     
  4. Place a large, heavy skillet on the stove over high heat.
     
  5. When it is nearly smoking, add the hamburger patties. Cook two minutes.
     
  6. Turn the patties and cook on the other side until desired doneness, about 1 minute for very rare, four minutes for medium-well.
     
  7. Arrange burgers on hamburger buns and garnish each with a slice of onion and tomato.
     
  8. Offer ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise as additions.
