Jimmy's Cajun Beef Burgers

Jimmy loves hamburger grilling recipes and he's written quite a few. This is Jimmy's Cajun beef burgers, a person favorite of his. Now you can make them yourself with this helpful recipe!

Ingredients
  • 1 pound 99% lean ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic-flavored low fat vegetable oil
  • 4 crusty wheat hamburger buns, split, lightly toasted
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 teaspoons garlic-flavored light vegetable oil
  • 1 large Spanish onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) Cajun-style stewed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
Instructions
  1. In large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat until hot.
     
  2. Add onion and salt; cook and stir over low heat 10 minutes.
     
  3. Add tomatoes and thyme; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 8 to 10 minutes or until sauce thickens slightly.
     
  4. Meanwhile, shape ground beef into four 1/2-inch thick patties.
     
  5. Sprinkle both sides of patties with black pepper and red pepper; brush lightly with 1 teaspoon light oil.
     
  6. Heat grill to medium.
     
  7. Place patties on grill, uncovered.  Cook for 11 to 13 minutes or until centers are no longer pink, turning once.
     
  8. Spoon approximately 1/2 of sauce onto bottom halves or rolls; top with patties.
     
  9. Spoon remaining sauce over patties.  Sprinkle with parsley.
     
  10. Close with roll tops.
     
  11. Serve while still hot.
