The Modern Sprout Self-Watering Herbs Kit has everything you need to grow your own herbs indoors. The kit includes a colorful mason jar, a net pot, grow medium, wick, plant food, and seeds to get you started. Within 4 weeks of starting to use the kit, there was loads of basil to use in different meals.

I love cooking with fresh herbs, but I hate buying them from the store just to throw them out a couple days later. By growing your own herbs, they are always fresh and ready to be used. Modern Sprout has 4 different kits: basil, Greek oregano, cilantro, and parsley. All of their kits grow organic herbs.

I had the opportunity to grow my own basil using their kit. I do not have a green thumb, but it was incredibly easy to set up and start growing. Growing the herbs in a mason jar keeps them contained to a small, portable area. Within a week of planting the seeds, I had basil sprouting. The only upkeep was to change the water and add plant food (comes with the kit) to the water. Within three weeks I had useable basil!

The basil I grew was delicious. I used it to make a homemade pesto recipe and I could not have been more pleased with the fresh flavors. After trimming off leaves, the basil in the Mason jar continued to grow. The jars are meant to be reused, but you can also just keep growing herbs from the trimmed stems.

This kit makes a great gift for kids learning about gardening, foodie friends, and anyone who needs a little help getting herbs to grow. I want one for every herb now!
