The Lemonade Diet

What it is: Much like other detox diets before it, the Lemonade Diet is a juice fast, also known as the Master Cleanse. The Lemonade Diet lasts for ten days with the goal to purify your body and digestive system. In the process, you will inevitably lose weight as well.

How it works: The Lemonade Diet is a fasting process so you must be prepared to consume only the Lemonade mixture, keeping to the exact recipe, for all ten days of the diet. The fast allows your body time to expel the toxins that have built up in your body.

What you do: On the Lemonade Diet, you need to drink 6 to 12 glasses of lemonade every day you are fasting. The recipe is as follows – no substitutes or altering or the diet will not work – mix all ingredients together:

  • 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 8 ounces water

Benefits: You will lose weight – just as anyone would if they starved themselves for ten days. Many report that after completing the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet their body had more energy and less pain.

Downside: There is no medical evidence that supports the Lemonade Diet’s claim to expel all the toxins in your body. Also, dieters should bear in mind that the Lemonade Diet is a quick-fix solution to a much bigger problem – to truly lose weight you must change your lifestyle habits. Consult a doctor before deciding to follow the Lemonade Diet as it could have adverse effects on your organs and metabolism.
