The original legendary Olive Garden breadsticks recipe uses refined white flour and plenty of butter. This Healthier Olive Garden Style Breadsticks recipe approximates the flavor of the original while being much better for you.

Makes: 9

Preparation Time: 2 hr

Cooking Time: 25 min

Ingredients
  • 1 loaf frozen whole wheat bread dough, completely thawed and left at room temperature
  • All-natural olive oil cooking spray
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Dried oregano, to taste
Instructions
  1. When dough is soft enough to knead, spray your fingers with cooking spray and knead until you can shape the dough into thin breadsticks. You should be able to get about 8 to 10 breadsticks.

  2. Place the breadsticks about three inches apart on cookie sheets sprayed with cooking spray.

  3. Let the breadsticks rise in a warm place until they have doubled. Give yourself up to two hours to have this happen.

  4. Once the breadsticks have doubled, lightly spray the top of each of them with cooking spray. Then, dust the dough with garlic powder and oregano to taste.

  5. Bake at 375 degrees F about 20 to 25 minutes,  or until golden brown.

  6. Cool in the pan on a rack. Be sure to serve these within a day or two after baking.
Notes

Many larger grocery stores now carry whole wheat dough in their freezer sections. If you cannot find it by you, try either ordering it online or make your own whole wheat dough.
